How to merge, split and reorganize PDF pages
Most PDF frustration comes down to pages being in the wrong file, the wrong order or the wrong orientation. These are all quick fixes once you know which tool does what.
Combining files into one
Merging is for when related pages are trapped in separate files: a document scanned in batches, signed pages returned by different people, or several attachments you would rather send as one. The merged document follows the order of the files you provide, so arrange them before combining. Because pages are copied across without re-rendering, merging is lossless — the result is exactly as sharp as the originals, just in a single file.
Splitting a document apart
Splitting is the opposite move, and it comes in three flavours. Extract selected pages when you want a specific few — say, pulling one section out of a long report. Split by ranges when you want to cut a document into chunks, like turning a bundle into separate chapters. Split every page when each page is really its own document, such as a stack of scanned invoices. Ranges are written simply, like "1-3, 7, 10-12", with each range becoming its own file.
Reordering, rotating and deleting
Once pages are in the right file, the remaining fixes are about arrangement. Reordering lets you drag pages into the correct sequence from thumbnails — fixing a scan that came out jumbled, or moving an appendix to the back. Rotating fixes pages that were scanned sideways or upside down. Deleting removes blank separator pages, duplicates or anything that should not be in the final document. The organize tool combines all three so you can do them together in one pass and download a single corrected file.
Chaining tools together
Real tasks often need more than one step, and because everything runs locally you can chain tools instantly with no upload between them. Want only chapters two and four of a report combined into a new file? Split out the ranges you need, then merge the results. Need a clean scan? Rotate the sideways pages, delete the blanks, then compress. There is no waiting for uploads and downloads between steps, so building up a multi-stage edit is quick.
Quality and privacy throughout
All of these page operations are structural: they move, copy, rotate or remove whole pages without redrawing their content, so there is no quality loss at any step — text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. And every one runs entirely in your browser. Reshaping a contract, a medical file or a bundle of statements never involves uploading it, which matters precisely because those are the documents you most often need to reorganise.
Quick reference: which tool for which task
The tools overlap a little, so it helps to keep a simple map in mind. Match the problem you have to the job it needs:
- Several separate files that should be one document — use Merge PDF, arranging them in the order you want first.
- One document you need to cut into parts, or pull specific pages from — use Split PDF, by ranges or by selecting pages.
- Pages in the wrong order — use Organize PDF and drag them into place from the thumbnails.
- Pages scanned sideways or upside down — use Rotate PDF, one page at a time or all at once.
- Blank separator pages, duplicates or anything that should not be there — use Delete PDF Pages.
- A mix of the above — Organize PDF handles reordering, rotating and deleting together in a single pass, so you download one corrected file.
