Three ways to split, and when to use each
Splitting a PDF means different things depending on what you are trying to do, so the tool offers three modes. Extracting selected pages is best when you want a specific handful — pull pages 3, 8 and 9 out of a report into their own file. Splitting by ranges is for cutting a document into sections, like turning a 30-page bundle into three 10-page chapters. Splitting every page into its own file is useful when each page is really a separate document, such as a batch of scanned invoices.
Writing page ranges
Ranges are written as a comma-separated list, for example "1-3, 7, 10-12". Each entry becomes its own output file: pages 1 to 3 in the first, page 7 in the second, pages 10 to 12 in the third. A single number is just a one-page range. This gives you precise control over how a long document is carved up without clicking through every page.
Every page keeps its original quality
Splitting copies pages into new documents without re-rendering them, so there is no quality loss — text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. When a split produces several files, you can download them individually or grab them all at once as a single ZIP. How do page ranges work?
Type ranges separated by commas, for example “1-3, 7, 10-12”. Each range becomes a separate PDF: pages 1 to 3 in the first file, page 7 in the second, and so on.
Can I extract just one page?
Yes. Use “Extract selected pages” and click the page you want, or type a single page number as a range. You get a one-page PDF.
Is my document uploaded while splitting?
No. The PDF is read and split by code running in your browser. It never leaves your device.
Do the split files keep the original quality?
Yes. Pages are copied as-is, with no recompression — text stays selectable and images keep their resolution.
Can I split a very large PDF?
Yes. Because processing is local there are no size limits beyond your device memory. Very large scanned documents may take a moment to render thumbnails, but splitting itself is fast.
Will splitting reduce the file size of each part?
Usually a little, since each part only carries the pages you kept. To shrink the parts further, run them through the Compress PDF tool afterwards.
